Panic Attacks

By Everette Genovese

Dealing with your panic attacks is a difficult road. There are various factors that can trigger attacks, and no one has the same symptoms. Because of this, finding relief that works for each sufferer can be difficult.

Music can be a good solution if you are experiencing a panic attack. It helps to calm you. Sit in a calm room and listens to songs you like. Pay close attention to the lyrics. Allowing yourself to become distracted with the music, can help calm you down and keep your symptoms at bay.

Feeling alone can make it more difficult to cope with your feelings of anxiety. When a panic attack strikes, enlist the aid of your friends or family members to help you get through it. Your friends and loved ones can help give you the support you need.

Dealing with anxiety by yourself can seem downright impossible. Staying socially active, even just spending time with loved ones, can help you avoid panic attacks by providing positive interactions with others. After all, you would expect your friends to do the same for you.

Apply deep breathing techniques to shorten the duration of a panic attack. Breathe in deeply through your nose till your abdomen rises. While you breathe in, count to five, and then count to five again as you let the breath out of your mouth. Do this 10 times, and you will start to feel better.

Allowing the symptoms of a panic attack to overwhelm you is the worst thing you can do. Allow yourself to feel the emotions that you are experiencing instead of resisting them. Visualize the sensations flooding around and then away from you in a detached way. Keep concentrating on your breathing techniques. Make sure you take slow, deep breaths as a means of remaining calm. Slow and measured breathing will help you calm down gradually.

Ask your friend if they can meet you to talk in person. Doing this can really expedite you in feeling better faster.

Getting help from a type of counselor can help, so can talking to a loved one. Of course, a professional psychologist or counselor can diagnose causes and suggest effective treatments.

In conclusion, you are aware of what it feels like to have a panic attack. Because of this, you are intimately familiar with the signs that an attack is about to happen. Your biggest concern may be that you do not know what causes the attack, or how you can quickly control it.
