Why Motivational Products Should Be Part Of Any Company Productivity Plan

By Tamika Quinn

Employers recognize the fact that they can only become and remain competitive if their employees are motivated to perform quality work and if they do everything within their abilities to help the company to achieve its objectives. Motivating a workforce is not always easy, especially when unions are involved. Many employers use motivational products as one way in which to encourage workers to do more and to do their jobs better.

Formal surveys and studies on the issue of motivation clearly show that the majority of employees prefer cash bonuses above any other form of reward. Recognition in any form is appreciated and sought, but cash can help employees to define their own reward by using the money as they see fit. Monetary rewards are used widely at every level of the corporate ladder.

Most organizations employ a variety of techniques and methods to try and motivate their employees. The use of posters, encouraging emails and videos is popular. Successes are highlighted in this way and those responsible for the achievements are praised. Most people enjoy this type of public recognition. These methods are also used to remind employees of the objectives of the business and their importance in helping to achieve those goals.

The role of keynote speakers as part of an overall plan to keep employees motivated should not be underrated. These speakers are often seen as celebrities in their own right and they lend prestige to a celebration, launch or function. Their very presence is often enough to instill pride and loyalty and their messages often contain basic truths about perseverance, hope and ambition.

Gifts are also very popular as ways in which to motivate or reward employees. Many companies stock a variety of gifts ranging from small tokens to very expensive items. In many cases businesses use such gifts as standard rewards when very specific goals are achieved. They may range from pen and pencil sets to membership of golf clubs and even all expenses paid holidays.

The potential benefits from publicly recognizing creative and productive employees simply cannot be overemphasized. All people love public praise and it is relatively easy to implement programs that do just that. Certificates are popular because people can display them. Great care should be taken, however, to make sure that there are strict and fair rules governing the award process. If this is not done, employees may become bitter if they think that they have been overlooked.

No two people are motivated by the same things or in the same manner. Reward systems need to take this fact into consideration and it is probably best to create a system that features various levels of rewards and recognition. Some people will go to great lengths to earn cash bonuses while others prefer some form of public recognition.

Motivational products, in all the various forms, are important to employees. Rewards often serve to encourage employees to try even harder and recognition can play a very important role in fostering loyalty. Many companies realize this fact and they do not see rewards as an expense but rather as an investment in productivity and good public relations.
