Saving Money Is not Always the main Goal

By Kurtis Knee

When you're developing your business there is a lot to think about. You're going to be concerned with the money necessary for the different things you need. Your web site will probably be expensive. Advertising should cost a lot more. Hiring a person to help you operate things will cost a lot more money. You may be tempted to cut a number of corners. The simple fact is, however, that while discovering ways to save money can sometimes being a help, sometimes it can also hurt you. You could easily get incredibly hurt. The area that it wounds you the most is when you violate copyright and intellectual property laws. Here are a few good examples.

Stealing web page designs. It's one thing to get a hold of a free theme for your internet site or to make use of one of the free website builders out there. Completely stealing someone else's layout, however, is not advisable. Sure the internet is a large place and the chance of the original designer ever finding out that you've stolen the design might be small, you still shouldn't do it. If you truly love the design and desire to use it for yourself, just contact the designer or the owner of the website and ask for permission to either employ that design on your own site or blog or ask the designer if he or she could put together a new design for you (be sure to ask for the price).

Putting up images and pictures without having permission. Just because you find a graphic or photo within a Google image search does not always mean that that graphic or photo is part of the public domain. Google indexes images and links to the main website that displays it. This is okay. When you post the photo or image on your internet site without getting permission from the artist or owner, though, you are violating the copyright laws. If the owner discovers this, you could get sued. You should always acquire authorization to use the image before you actually put it up. You could find yourself having to pay a small amount of money but it'll be worth it if you can stave off legal action. If your funds are low, you can always look for free images or images published with the Creative Commons licenses that allow people to use images commercially. Those are okay for open use.

Copying someone's published written content. If you'd like to use another person's content on your own internet site, it is crucial that you give credit to the original author. If you copy the content from another internet site, just be sure you link back to that site. This will help you get the primary writer to like you. If you don't put up links or offer credit to the original creator, you will get in big trouble for copyright infringement as well as intellectual property theft. You'll pay far more for the infringement than it might cost you to just link to the original or even to hire someone to create the original content for you.

It's usually far better to be cautious when you are setting up your business. Sure you need to spend less but make sure that you are using legal means for those savings. When you don't, the cost you will be experiencing will be far more than it would have been otherwise.
