Discovering The Spirituality Network Columbus Ohio

By Helen Walker

When hearing the terms spiritual and religious, most people believe these are two distinctly different things. However, there is a Christian based Spirituality Network now operating out of Columbus, Ohio. Unlike some other Christian based programs, the network is focused on acceptance and inclusion. As such, the primary goal of the program lies in providing a number of resources which will promote spiritual growth of those in the network and the community at large.

The network recently celebrated 25 years of being in existence. In doing so, the group committed to continue to take steps to transform the world while grounding in the source of all creation and promoting living a life of community action and service. In addition, the organization promotes acceptance and inclusion of all individuals which is not always the case when it comes to organized religion.

In believing in unconditional love and a God who accepts and includes all in the Kingdom, members are often drawn to circumstances and human relationships in which one can be of service. Whereas, by living a healthy lifestyle, maintaining an ongoing relationship with the Creator others will be prone to accept such assistance and service.

The organization provides a number of resources to members and those in the local community. These include the Wellstreams Program, spiritual direction referrals for individuals, spiritual retreats and counseling and programs which can foster a more deeply spiritual life which include care and enrichment for others. In most cases, services are provided free of charge and without expectation of anything in return.

While most religions cater to people whom adhere to the dogma and beliefs of the faith, the organization provides these services to people regardless of a belief in God, faith or lifestyle. Being a nonprofit based 501 (c)3 organization, all donations made to the organization are tax deductible on an annual basis.

One program the spiritual network provides is that of the Living Faith Awards. The awards recognize laypersons whom have exemplified faith through action. Recipients include individuals who live in ways that challenge and inspire while serving those in need. More information on this and other programs can be found in a monthly newsletter published by the organization.

Other awards are also distributed at an annual ceremony held on annual basis. These awards include awards based on community service in the areas of multi-culturalism and Interfaith practices, an award for youth between 18 and 30 whom have shown great promise in working toward changing the world for the better in the future, a social justice award for those whom have participated in various social justice programs during the past twelve months and the Living Faith Award for those whom have contributed the most to the organization and local community over the last year.

Each year, the organization places a call for nominations for the Living Faith Awards in the monthly newsletter. In order to be nominated, a person needs to actively promote peacekeeping live a peaceful life, visit sick individuals and prisoners while giving shelter to the homeless. In addition, the individual must be a good steward of the earth and all of creation while loving neighbors as oneself, even if those neighbors may not reciprocate such unconditional love.
