Many parents with teenage kids can attest that looking after a teenager is not a walk in the park. This is because teen years are mostly regarded as the most challenging years of a human beings life. It is one of the most delicate periods of people lives as teens try to navigate the delicate channel between babyhood and adulthood. One of the most challenging decisions that teens have to make is when to begin using drugs or alcohol. Also, some teens are likely to be vulnerable to drugs and beer if they have undergone some emotional pain. Just like adults, they feel that these substances acts like medication to heal their wounded hearts. They feel that being drunk or high is a temporal way to relive pain and offers an escape gate.

Some teens are also very rebellious. They want to test their maturity and prove a point to their parents. They also want to see what their parents can do. In most cases, this happens to teens that have strict and over protective parents. Instead of letting their parents know how they feel about their constant nagging, they find escape in alcohol and drugs.

Never blame a teen because of the things that he or she does. Some teens do these things because they lack counsel. They have no people to tell them about the danger of using substances and how to avoid falling prey to substances.
