A Martial Arts Meditation Instruction Guide

By Miranda Sweeney

When one does martial arts, he is constantly in motion and must eventually learn to slow down both the mind and the body. It is for this reason that meditation is a very important aspect for all martial artists simply because this would help cool the body down and help it relax. So for those who are into martial arts, here are some martial arts meditation instruction tips.

When one would meditate, he would usually be doing it once before the lesson and once after. The first one that he does is usually done so that he can relax his mind in order to concentrate on the lesson to be followed. Now the one after is done so that he will be able to relax his brain and body alike.

So when one will do the starting meditation, he will first have to sit down in an Indian sitting position. If he is familiar with the lotus position, then he may also assume this position as it is better for meditating. Once in this position, make sure that the both the back and the neck would be straight and aligned.

After doing that, one has to now close his eyes completely and drop his shoulders. While doing this, one has to make sure that there are no thoughts that would enter his head. One thing that a lot of practitioners would do would be to simply think about the color black so that they are in a sense, not thinking about anything.

Now the next thing that one would have to concentrate on would be the breathing. Now do take note that while one is meditating, he will be doing a special kind of breathing. Upon inhaling, one will blow up his stomach a little bit. Now as he exhales, he will be making his stomach smaller as he would be taking out bad air.

Of course there would be the visualization part of the session. Now the thing about visualization is that it actually allows one to control the hidden energy that is inside his body. Now while meditating, he should visualize energy flowing to all parts of his body. He should imagine that there would be chi flowing through his stomach to his hands, feet, and other parts.

This session is done before one would exercise. After exercises, one would then be doing another different kind. The breathing and the visualization techniques would still be the same in the after session but the only difference would be that one would now be lying down. This is known as the relaxation posture. Also, there would be times that one will be breathing out through his mouth slowly in order to expel tired energy.

So if one is into martial arts, these are some techniques that he must definitely take note of. In the state of California, many schools there still continue to emphasize the importance of meditation. Many schools in other places have already took out this aspect from their curriculum.
