One of the critical things to know is that people feel safe and relaxed around people that understand them better. Therefore, as a mentor, you should be authentic at all time. Also, you should learn to be empathetic. This will help you to relate better with the people you are coaching. Always ensure that you are honest and true to yourself.

Secondly, you should know that these people are probably smarter than you are. Therefore, you should be honest from day one. If you open up and become honest, they will understand you. Days have changed, and you can no longer tell a young person what to do. This is because they are smarter and know that they can get what they want through other ways. It is therefore important to be up-front and honest from the beginning.

For the young players coming out of high school, people tend to tell them that they are so good at what they do. This should not be the case. It is better to let these young people earn their way.

Also, this generation does not like waiting. They always want to get things right away. This may work for some people or things but not all the time. Hence, it is wise to train them on how to be patient. Teach them that waiting is not that bad after all as you can get what you want and even better. This will help them to be more patient.

This generation is more connected to the web than real people. Therefore, they are not able to connect better with people. As a coach who understands the importance of people skills, make sure you train them to develop better social skills. Show them that the web cannot make them social people as they need real connections.

The good thing with this generation is that they can do what it takes to get what they want. They tend to be super-focused on the things they do. However, having diversification is encouraged. Things change so fast and to keep up, they must have more goals in life.

Mentors should ensure that they create a stable relationship with his/her mentees. When you connect with these people at a personal level, training them will be easy. Also, ensure that you treat them like other people. This is because they also have family goals as well as leading a successful life.
