Some Words Of Wisdom Scripture References

By Etta Bowen

Wisdom is the ability to apply knowledge in a way that can benefit people. Wise men and women are in high demand because their presence can change a lot of things. It is needful in solving problems, settling disputes and for many other reasons. This is why it is necessary to go to the Bible or study materials that contain words of wisdom scripture references for quotations that can help one live well.

The Bible is a rich source of quotations that can make one wise. In Job 12:12, the writer explains that it is good to be with elders or those who are advanced in age. This is acceptable since it is normal to associate wisdom with experience and length of time spent in a place. Children who spend some time with their grannies and governors who seek the advice of past governors do better than others.

A person who does not have reverence for God cannot be truly wise. This is written in Proverbs 1:7. This shows that God is the greatest and cannot be compared with any other. It also points the need to take Him seriously in every endeavor.

One who has the fear of God will not want to do anything that will make Him angry. This is what is written in Proverbs 3:7. Another way of saying this is that nobody can be wise by being wicked. Wickedness means unkindness. It includes activities such as fighting, idolatry, fornication, backbiting and stealing. A person who abstains from these is one who really fears God.

Another good reference is Proverbs 13:1. The passage is beneficial to anyone who is not yet an adult. It says for such people to be wise, they should be humble enough to obey instructions from their parents or guardians. Some people begin to do the wrong things when they are young because they decided not to follow instructions. They eventually become reckless and unable to satisfy neither themselves nor the society.

Make God happy if you want to be clever. You will see this strategy in Ecclesiastes 2: 26. Apart from the cleverness they inherit, they are also satisfied with happiness. Riches cannot be their problem because anything they need will be provided by God.

There are many places in the scripture that talk about man's inability to find wisdom on his own. Some scriptures talk about acknowledging God in every way while 1 Corinthians 1:25 says that God's foolishness is wiser than man's wisdom. This does not mean that God can be foolish at times. Instead, it emphasizes the importance of depending on God.

A wise man is not in a hurry to show that he is angry. This is in accordance to what is written in Proverbs 29:11. Instead of seeking ways to retaliate, someone who is clever looks for opportunities to make peace. A fool is not careful in his way of approach and he is often avoided lest he be offended at anytime.
