Don't Let Anxiety Attacks Rule

By Brian Sloan

Normally the first time you experience anything like this it will catch you by surprise. You may break out in a sweat, begin to feel heart palpitations, tingling hands, your mind and thoughts are racing out of control, and you feel like your coming unglued. You may feel the urge to run from the situation and the more you think about what's happening, the more you become panicked. You may feel hot flashes. You normally feel like you may be going crazy. You may be completely terrified.when there is actually no danger around.

Well, if you have ever had an anxiety attack - panic attack, then you may recognize some of what I have just described, and those are just some of the symptoms. Actually, the attack can sometimes be started by a real event that caused some type of fear response, or it simply may have come out of nowhere and you have no idea why it happened. And that is when it's really aggravating - when you have no idea why it happened. That makes it all the more scary. It can sneak up on you and have you in a level 10 panic attack and you won't even know why. Weird. But it has happened to me.

"Ok, now Greg. You're talking about some fearful, weak people now, aren't you?" No. Not at all. The people who can suffer from panic disorder can be some of the smartest, most successful and confident people that you would want to know. We are told by the National Institute of Mental Health that, in any given year, almost 2.5 million people in the Untied States can suffer from an anxiety attack. However, in my opinion, due to the fact that we are living in high stress times, plus the many people who won't face it, and are embarrassed by this condition, I just bet the numbers are much higher.

It has been a long time since I have had a large anxiety attack. However, I truly remember the awful fear of those moments, and not only that, but the dread, worry, and fear that it would occur again soon - out of nowhere. i was afraid that it would show up again at the most inappropriate time, place, or event and embarrass me to the point of shame. It's the type of thing that makes you think twice about going to a social event, and may well keep you from living the life that you deserve to live. And, because of that, it's also a condition that you should do everything you possibly can to rid yourself of it.

Well, how about some good news? Today we find ourselves with more information, more treatment options, and the medical and psychological community are much more experienced with dealing with anxiety attacks than years ago. There are even some great programs online. So, if you find yourself dealing with this aggravating and frightening disorder, don't let it take the fun and enjoyment away from your life. Find your way out through professional help. See your doctor. See a counselor or psychologist trained in this field, or perhaps a well trained psychiatrist who might even suggest medication for a time. But, please don't let this thing win! Sometimes issues of anxiety can bring embarrassment, and they shouldn't. However, if they do, don't you dare let that stop you from getting the proper help, facing this condition and winning!

Don't remain a prisoner of your anxiety. Your life is worth more that living in fear of fear. Seek help with your panic attacks and /or general anxiety disorder. There are some good online programs. There are many healthcare professionals and/or psychologists to help. There are some well trained ministers as well. Remember, you're not alone. You have millions of people who share your frustration and condition. But, also remember that you don't have to stay that way. Don't live less than the full life that you deserve. Take action today. Say no to anxiety. Don't let panic and anxiety win. You are the winner!
