ADHD is characterized as the mental disorder that is a combination of ipulsivity, inattentiveness, hyperactivity and distractibility. The behaviors they usually have are having troubles in getting along well with others, inability to concentrate or becoming disruptive. Some individuals do not believe this is an actual disorder and consider it as some behaviors which are intolerable.

This is why it is important to help spread the word about it and help other people learn and understand it more. You can do this by being an ADHD advocate specially when you know someone who is suffering from this. This would help the patients get their needed support from everyone around them.

You first become as a student to learn more regarding the condition from different sources like other advocates. After being knowledgeable enough then you would become an expert and you might not feel like an expert but for others who have lesser knowledge, you are one. Then you start to educate others and get support for the ones needing it is when you become an advocate.

Some basic steps are highly advisable to be followed when you like to become an effective advocate which could be helpful. First is accepting your role as one and feeling good whenever you are supporting the ones needing it and educating others regarding the condition. You would start knocking down the ignorance and stigma of people preventing them to help.

Get educated to know more about ADHD and have more tools you can use in effectively expressing your opinions when required. This can be done by reading books or talking with mental health professionals who are experts with this. Another way is by talking and sharing your experiences with other advocates.

Begin with your own personal situation by helping your daughter or son or supporting your clients, student or patients. Doing this would help you have a momentum which you can use to try and help others. You could start reaching out to those in your community such as your neighborhood, school or workplace.

Recognize the unique strength everyone has which could be used in spreading the advocacy effectively. Your strength can be in talking with other people and in bringing them together or in using current technologies such as blogs and social media where thoughts and ideas are easier and faster to spread. These are great in assisting your aim in reaching out more people.

Join others specially support groups or organizations that have the same advocacy as you, either local, national or even online. Working with others would help in expanding your reach which means you can help more people and educate them. This would also be a way for you to learn more and for your skills to develop further which would be helpful.

Record your thoughts and ideas and organized them so sharing them would be easier specially when you make copies of them for the newer ones to read. Learn the language associated with mental health which are not common and normally used. Communicate with others regularly so newer information can be shared immediately to help in your advocacy.
