How To Gain Confidence: At Work And In Life

By Ollie M. Buhr

On one occasion or another, you're going to take the center stage and give a speech. Whether to inspire people who have lost their hopes or to give lessons to those who are hungry of knowledge, you are expected to speak your mind and deliver clearly what you have to say. We all have our fair shares of stage fright. And public speaking is a real challenge to everyone. But, you have to keep in mind that in every challenge, there is always a way to beat it.

You only need one thing when you go up the stage: confidence-an unaltered confidence. It's what makes your legs stop from trembling. It keeps your feet intact on the ground. It clears your mind for you to be able to concentrate on just the content of what you have to say. The dilemma right here is this: how are you going to gain that confidence? There are two kinds of public speaking you might be caught in. One is that kind in which you are given a period of time to prepare, such as guest speaker speech during a commencement exercise. The other kind is the speech in which you are caught off guarded, such as extemporaneous speeches or ambushed interviews.

Identify your successes - Get to know the good things and the talents you have and appreciate them. By this you can find inner peace that will help you gain self-confidence in some areas of your life.Do not care too much about what other people think - Other people tend to care more about themselves than you. You cannot please everybody in the world, so do what you think is right and pleases you. For example, when you are speaking in a public gathering, do not care about how people think about you, just believe in yourself. This will help you appreciate yourself, which builds your self-confidence

What if you are ambushed to make a speech, where will you get your confidence from? Well, you can't be well prepared for this kind. This is when you have to apply the 'mind over matter' mantra. Being nervous is just all in the mind. Convince yourself that you can own that stage no matter what. Rather than being bothered by the question or the subject of your speech, concentrate on what you know about it and how you're going to say it. Once you're in the middle of your speech and you feel like you're going to falter anytime soon, it is good to stop for a while, look at your audience and throw them a smile. Whatever chances the world has, there will always be those who are looking at you and listening to what you are saying. Take your strength from them. Take your confidence from the fact that someone on the audience is waiting for the next thing you're going to say.

The economy might be in a better shape than one year ago but the job market has remained tough. The competition is fierce even with many candidates raising their qualifications, expanding their network and working on their skill set. It has become necessary to change the logistics of the search for a new job; success can be reached by applying all of yourself to your quest.A positive attitude is hard to accomplish when the general outlook is grim yet it is crucial if you want to be effective and gain professional achievements. Affirmative and forward-looking approach will not only advance your career, it may also improve other areas of your life. This is a great time to start building your confidence and focus on your attitude.

While some people revert to eating, shopping, crying, screaming or even, hibernating from everyone, I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that these reactions don't help the situation or your self-confidence very much. Instead of running that "spit the dummy" routine when you are feeling like a failure, let's transfer your focus and energy on something that may help your cause, instead of magnifying it.The quickest way to do this is turning to your supporters. Firstly you need to know,Who are your supporters? Who can help pull you out of this emotional downtime? Who can give you that confidence boost?I call this emotional downtime, because, while you feel like a loser with no confidence, it's only your emotions which are responsible for your results. Your actual knowledge and skills are good enough to succeed, but it's your pessimistic focus that drives your negative emotions which in turn give you the disappointing results that you produce when in this state resulting in no confidence. When you are in such an emotional downtime, it's virtually impossible to turn yourself around by yourself.

Consider even something that will pay little but bring satisfaction or professional benefits by raising your qualifications or allowing you contacts with other people within your field. Remember that sometimes a substantial gain can be achieved through the initial investment, so do not worry that you may use money saved for a rainy day. That day has come and you will be better off spending a little towards improvement of your skills and competencies. Having control over your budget will diminish the stress and help you gain positive outlook for the future!

But with the help of others, this can be done quickly and easily.Just like any business person or athlete, whenever they question their ability to produce the necessary results, they turn to their coach to pull them out rather than trying to do it themselves because they know that at the time,They are emotionally charged negatively to the situation, limiting possible outcomes and perceptions.Their coach/supporter is not emotionally connected to the situation, and therefore can think logically.Who is or can be your personal coach to pull you out of situations when you are feeling down with no confidence? Think carefully here, you don't want to choose the wrong coach.Think of all your family members, friends, colleagues, neighbors, members of any clubs you belong to, shop owners etc. you have gotten to know. Now all you have to do is contact them.

Choose who you spend time with wisely.Happiness is contagious, surround yourself with genuine and constructive people and some of their attitude will rub off on you and influence you in a positive way. You may want to spend more time with family; you need each other's support and faith. Give yourself small breaks and do something that makes you happy: meet with friends, take a walk in the park, go to cinema or treat yourself to a small gift.

Above all - take action and put yourself in charge. The right frame of mind will set you off to promising new grounds. Step by step you can change your attitude and empower yourself to make a difference in your own future, your own life.Margaret Buj is an Interview Coach and a senior recruiter, with experience of recruiting across EMEA for leading organizations in the technology sector, including Microsoft, VMware, Cisco and Business Objects. During a 1-to-1 coaching session with Margaret, you will get the opportunity to practice your interview skills without the pressure and the nerves of a real interview. You will get clear, practical advice and encouragement, and you will become more fluent in your ability to answer any question an interviewer can throw at you. Reach New Heights With This Personal Development Advice

By Maurice Pijanowski

There are many people out there who can help with getting you to understand yourself better. You may gain valuable insight into your thoughts and feelings from your friends or even by speaking with professional teachers and gurus.

Don't put off making decisions, as this could deny you opportunities. You need to face these decisions with confidence, even if you aren't totally sure. Use your common sense and knowledge when making important decisions. Even decisions with less favorable outcomes are useful because they allow the decision-maker to learn from the mistake. Making a bad decision helps you make a better decision next time.

Use your time efficiently so you can get more done in a shorter amount of time. One trick to doing this, is to take more breaks. While this may sound odd, taking frequent breaks gives you time to relax and re-energize, so when you return to your work, you are more productive.

Live according to your principles. Each individual has beliefs that he or she follows all the time. If you have a good foundation to defend them upon (and you should), your self esteem will benefit from adherence to your core principles. This also helps to make you a consistent person. This is an essential character trait.

If you take proper care of your physical needs, you will get the maximum benefit from your personal development approach. Getting enough sleep, having a healthy diet, and exercising regularly are simple activities that keep energy high, and it gives you a better chance at being successful with your personal development. Even though it sounds simple enough to do, it could also be one of the toughest things to get into.

Each day should be an opportunity to top the previous day's accomplishments. Set a goal of continuous improvement through steady efforts. Encourage yourself to top yesterday's accomplishments and set the stage for tomorrow's successes.

Unless you are self-sufficient, you cannot expect to be able to care for another person. Be sure to rest, relax, and restore your own mind and body.

Talking over your personal issues with someone such as a trained counselor or pastor can be an uplifting experience. These professionals are trained and experienced in helping you understand and manage the issues you have. Their job is to listen to you and your concerns and help you gain a new outlook on your situation. By speaking with a professional about your problems, you can lead a much healthier and enjoyable life.

Making improvements in your health will put you on the fast track of personal development. Good health makes anyone feel happier. When your health is good you think wisely and make good decisions. You also save money on medical expenses. Making choices that lead to a healthy lifestyle should be a part of your daily routine.

Attitude is a key part of growing yourself and becoming a more evolved person. Having a bad attitude in life will never get you far and can in fact, lead you in the wrong direction. Therefore, remain optimistic at all times, especially when things are not going your way.

Take the time to find out what parts of your life are truly important, and concentrate on doing your best in those areas. You will find an increased inner peace if you do not dwell on the past or negative encounters, and choose instead to think and act on positive experiences.

Try and find new ways to challenge yourself. These challenges can open new doors and develop better character and personality. Think about learning something or acquiring new skills. You may even create a model that nobody else has done before. Try to do your own thing, instead of doing what has already been done.

Though it is important to speak your mind, it is equally valuable to listen when others do so. This definitely applies for your personal development. Ensure you are taking time to listen to yourself. Listening to what your heart and body are telling you is key to getting what you really want and need in life.

An important bit of personal development advice is to always treat your body well. When your body lets you know that it needs food, water, rest, or the like, give it what it needs as soon as you can. If you listen to your body, you will be in better shape. If you disregard your body's intelligence, you might find in the future that it will not be able to take care of you.

One essential method of improving yourself is to get healthy. To have a healthy lifestyle, you need to do more than just exercise and eat right. You need to have the motivation to continue to do these things. Good health is necessary for you to be able to focus on other things.

Everybody makes mistakes, and making healthy food choices is definitely one field in which mistakes get made. Stress is not good for you. Because of this fact, you shouldn't worry too much about little things.

Challenges should always be undertaken. These new challenges can open you up to new possibilities. You may learn something new or develop a new skill. You can set the bar for something that no one had ever accomplished. Strive to create something new, rather than accomplishing something that's already been done.

Learn things that people that are successful are doing; use them in your own life. Pick two or three simple habits and focus on them until they are second nature. People say that it takes 21 days for a habit to stick, so have confidence in yourself and keep working on it.

Strive to be the best at everything you put your mind to. You should always want to be the best you can be. Do not worry if you are not the best at what you do: the important part is to enjoy it and inspire others. By increasing your value within your field of study or work, you can enjoy benefits including higher self-esteem.

Establish a very detailed plan to improve your life. Having a specific goal keeps you focused on what's really important. Having goals laid out will increase your likelihood of being able to overcome the challenges you encounter, and you will feel good about yourself once you do.

Learning more about yourself is the best way to help yourself grow. Always treat yourself well and never lie to yourself. Learn to enjoy your own company.

Time Management Tools: 5 Tips To Manage Your Study Time Better

By Lachlan Haynes

Trying to balance your time can be a real pain in the you-know-what! Especially for students like you, who have a million and one things to get done and hardly any time to do them.

But there is always light at the end of the tunnel. By identifying and using some simple time management tools that will improve your ability to manage your time effectively, you can quickly start freeing up more free time than you realized was possible.

Tip number one - start using to-do lists. It's far easier to remember what you need to get done by writing it down and then prioritizing the list you create. It's no good just trying to remember everything in your head - you need to start making to-do lists! Make sure when you create the list you create it with very specific actionable steps that you are going to take. For example, don't write "Start Maths homework", but instead write "Do first 3 questions of Maths homework". See the difference? If you have vague items it will only lead to uncertainty about what the task means and further procrastination problems.

Tip number two - create some goals. It's very easy to overlook creating goals and instead just get started on things. But working towards something specific helps create a direction for you. For example, if you make a goal that you will have your "Science homework completed no later than 8 pm tonight" then you have something specific you are working towards. If you have no goal in mind then you might end up drifting along until 9 pm without even completing the Science homework at all. So start listing all the things you want to achieve and when you want to achieve them by. This will help you easily see which activities are a total waste of your time and which are going to help you reach your ambitions.

Tip number three - lower your expectations. We all want to shoot for the stars - but don't put unreasonable pressure on yourself for no good reason. If you're taking too much on and it's taking too long because your expectations are way too high (for example, if you believe that nothing less than an A+ average for all your subjects is the only acceptable standard) then as soon as you slip under that extremely high standard a major meltdown will occur. So be committed to your ambition but not attached to every single outcome. If you are, you will spend way too much time focusing on things that don't always matter.

Tip number four - eliminate all distractions! If you wanted to, you could be in a constant state of distraction. The world is full of things and people trying to interrupt you. The real challenge is blocking all that out and focusing on what matters. Distractions can truly account for hours of your time each and every day. That's hundreds if not thousands of hours every year. Instead, you need to focus purely on what you want and then make a beeline for it. Turn off all distractions and get to work. Once it's done you can switch all your distractions back on and prepare to waste some serious time! Woo!

Tip number five - focus on one thing at a time. When you focus on multiple things at once there is a strong tendency to start all tasks but get nothing completed. Not only that, but your work also tends to be of a lesser quality because you are not focusing. That is a poor use of time. Just complete the tasks one after the other in a sequence and you'll find that things get completed quicker and with more awesomeness.

Critical Points Parents Should Pay Heed Of When Searching For A Child Care Center

By Rena Hudson

Finding a good Minneapolis child care facility can end up as challenging as hunting a new job. Sure, daycare centers are everywhere in the city. The odd is, parents cannot simply be at peace entrusting their kids to random caregivers found in one single search. It is vital to be very thorough. They need to undertake the quest with true sincerity. There are different factors that are required to be considered painstakingly as these are likely to bring havoc not only to their decision, but to their kids' welfare as well.

Experience of caregivers is one crucial aspect that just be seriously probed. Kids of any age require professional support and guidance which is why parents should at least opt for daycare centers with the finest reputation. The reputation of providers is the result of their dedication in giving accurate services and the flaming desire of the entire staff to commit to their goals.

It is never healthy to be stingy on child safety. It is important to aware of the possible impact of the cost being paid on service quality. But before parents start paying the most reputable facilities or agencies, it is vital to figure priorities out. Different individuals have different needs. A parent who has two or more children have greater needs than a parent with one.

One can call up the Child Care Aware or the National Association of Family Child Care for an expert help. Both offices have a list of accredited facilities in the area. It is best to get referrals from any of these institutions for safer and easier search. Obtaining at least three is going to be a huge help.

Parents should not rush their decision even supposing their situation is quite exigent. A pleasant advice from an office personnel has to be supported with a physical proof though. Therefore, parents should talk to the caregivers and directors of the recommended daycare facilities so as to get enough information.

For a more detailed inquiry, they might as well create a checklist for them to be guided on the entire discussion. Different institutions have different programs. It is important to contemplate on the pros and cons of the programs. And for that to be done perfectly, parents should ask accurate explanations from the staff.

Seekers, however, are encouraged never to rely much on the results of their discussions. Every person has biases. It is, therefore, important to interview several other parents who have kids currently enrolled. Doing this will give them much better idea about the potential caregivers.

Safety is very important. Upon visiting, parents should not only head straight to the office to get down to business. They need to look around to evaluate the safety of the entire vicinity. Lest if they never care about their kids that much, then they can forgo this.

Convenience and flexibility are also necessary. Any Minneapolis child care facility has very stringent visiting protocol. In spite of that, however, parents busy enough to check in may arrange from the office about who from the family is scheduled to pick up or check kids in each day.

Study Smart By Understanding The 80/20 Rule

By Lachlan Haynes

First of all, the 80/20 rule is not about economics or maths (even though it may sound like it), so let's get that straight from the start! However, this rule does apply to your life (and everyone else's life) so it's very important that you are aware of it and can start manipulating it for your own benefit (in the way you study or in any other field you choose).

The 80/20 rule tells us that 80% of what we achieve in life is a direct result of only 20% of all the actions we take. Now the ratio may not be exactly 80/20 - it may even be 99/1 - but the rule makes it clear that a small number of our actions are actually having a big impact.

This rule applies to more than just our "actions"; it actually applies to everything (according to Pareto). So let's have a look at some very straightforward examples to help demonstrate this. I'm willing to bet that you spend 80% or more of your social time with 20% or less of the people you know (friends, family, acquaintances). What about 80% or more of the time you spend online is on 20% or less of all the websites you've ever visited? What about 80% or more of the phone calls you make are to 20% or less of all the contacts in your phone? Seriously, you can apply it to anything.

Given that 80% of what we achieve is a direct result of 20% of the actions we take, the first point to take away today is that in order to have the most impact you must focus on the 20% that is impacting your 80% - and then disregard the rest. That's right, find your 20% and then forget everything else.

Clearly, there is no reason to spend your time doing things that account for only 20% of what you achieve, especially if that 20% takes up 80% of your time! Instead, you should focus on the 20% that is impacting 80% of your results. Focus on drastically improving your results by changing those areas that are having the most impact. For example, if you find that your biggest challenge is being disorganized then if that area was transformed you would find it would have a massive result wouldn't it? So you change one thing but it impacts lots of things.

So which small areas are having the biggest impact on your results? Unfortunately it could be many things. For example, time management and a lack of organization are often cited as key problems. But for the point of this article let's focus on three areas that are most often cited as problematic (and are definitely 20% areas!)

The biggest 20% area that undoubtedly creates and influences your outcomes are your habits. With poor habits come poor results. There is no doubt about it. You may not even realize it but your habits are impacting you right now. Change your habits and you will change your outcomes.

Motivation levels are almost always a challenge. If you don't feel motivated you don't do anything. If you don't do anything there is no way you can be successful! It's not possible is it? If you feel super motivated each day (a small 20% area) then it will no doubt creates big results for you (the 80% area). Find a way to get motivated each day and you will create a massive transformation in your results.

Your memory recall ability has a huge impact on your results. Many tests and exams don't only test knowledge; they also strongly test your memory recall. Unfortunately, not many students are taught how to recall information. Nonetheless, if your memory recall ability is legendary then you will transform your results! I'm sure we can agree on that. SO again, we see that one area (your 20%) is having a significant impact on your level of achievement (your 80%).

There is no doubt that there are many areas that impact your results. But you will definitely have a few items (say 2-3) that are causing the most impact. Have you been able to identify your 20% areas? Identify those things that are having the biggest impact on you and get to work on them. If you work hard on those things that have maximum result and your grades will absolutely skyrocket. Good luck!

Importance Of A First Impression

By Lori Buenavista

People say you will never get a second chance to make a very first impression. So, what sort of impression do individuals have when they first see you? Listed below are 5 tricks to make a great first impression:

Stand Tall

Healthy posture is one of the best indications that you are a confident, energetic person. People who slouch, droop and duck their heads are noticed as shy, slack and boring. So, remain straight, shoulders back, head held high.

Dress to Impress

Your clothing says a great deal about your personality, proper grooming and a feeling of suitability. Don't be worried to let your clothing reflect your very own style. A pretty scarf, fascinating tie or cool hat can help others form an impression of you that is true to who you really are.

Clothe yourself in clothing that fits properly; people with body image issues often wear baggy, bulky attire that only acts to make them look careless. Otherwise, wearing clothing that is too tight and too small gives a bad impact. Find attire that fits properly for a great impression.

Put on attire that is clean, pressed and in good repair if you would like individuals to see you as organized, tidy and detail-oriented.

Finally, dress correctly for the occasion. Jeans and a t-shirt aren't right for most business meetings; a business suit isn't the best outfit for a backyard BBQ. Put on clothing right for your age, too.

Smile

Keep in mind when your mommy told you to, "Wipe that look off your face!" She wasn't kidding-when you're frowning, pouting or smirking, people form instant negative impressions of you. On the other hand, when you're smiling, your whole face lights up. How do you want individuals to see you?

Get in touch with Confidence

When meeting someone for the first time, step forward, extend your hand, smile and introduce yourself. You'll exhibit a sense of well-being, happiness and confidence, and others will form a positive impression of you instantly. Then, strike up a conversation. Ask your new acquaintance about his connections to the host, or find some other common ground and communicate with confidence. Listen closely more than you talk, and others' positive first impressions of you will only get better.

Arrive Prepared

Before going into a business or social situation during which you'll be meeting new people, perform a little bit of research. Before going to the interview, research the company's background, its services or products and its people. You may use the same strategy for social scenarios. As an example, if you're attending an art gallery show, figure out little information about the artists featured. Then, whenever you meet new friends for the first time, you'll have something to talk about, and you'll make a first impression as an intriguing, engaging person.
