Is Jesus the prophesied Son of God? How is He portrayed in the two testaments? Is there a link between the old and New Testament in reference to Jesus? The answer lies in examining the types of Christ in the two testaments. The angle of the antichrist will not be explored, rather how the different manifestations are captured in the two testaments.
Tree of Life. Trees are referred in different ways in both old and new testaments. Reference is to a branch, vine, olive and general trees. Trees are known to nourish animals and birds as a source of food and shelter. Genesis 2 from verse 9 indicates that God planted a tree in the middle of the Garden of Eden. In Revelations Chapter 22, from verse 2, it is said that the tree is the source of healing for human kind. This healing comes from Jesus.
The Ark. The Ark built by Noah is a symbol of salvation when everything else is drowning. This is captured in Genesis 7,16 as Noah and his family enter the ark. The gospel of John 10, 28 states that Jesus gives his followers life so that no one can snatch them. Through this life, they will not perish.
Passover Lamb. The Passover feast marked the salvation of Israelites from Egypt. It was blood from the lamb that was used on doors to keep away the angel of death as is written in Exodus chapter 12. John chapter 1 verse 29 captures the words of John the Baptist who upon seeing Jesus approaching him for baptism declared that Behold the Lamb of God who cleanses the sins of mankind. This is a direct mention of Jesus as the Lamb of God.
Manna. Israelites had a hard time in their journey through the desert because they lacked food. God sent them food in form of manna as captured in Exodus chapter 16. This is an indication that God is the food and the supplier of that food to his people. In John chapter 6 and verse 35, Jesus says he is the bread of life, and whoever comes to him will never hunger or thirst. Jesus is the new form of manna for Christians.
The rock of life and salvation. When Moses approached God seeking water as they crossed the desert, he was told to strike a stone. From the strike as captured in Exodus 17, they got water and life by extension. Calvary was a reenactment of the same scene when the soldier speared Christ on the side. Water and blood flowed, a sign of salvation. This water and rock are referred spiritually in 1st Corinthians 10. The bible says that Christians had Jesus as their spiritual water from a rock.
The temple. The dwelling place of God was the temple. Without a temple, there was a feeling of emptiness. When Israelites built the temple in 1st Kings chapter 6, they were preparing for the presence of God to enable them get life. In John chapter 2, Jesus says that once the temple is destroyed, he will raise it in three days. He was pointing at his death.
Prophesies and mention of Jesus in Old Testament are fulfilled in New Testament. It is impossible to mistake the vivid descriptions. This is a confirmation that Jesus is the messiah prophesied in Old Testament and fulfilled in New Testament.
